This is the information and resource page for the master planning effort underway for the current City Hall site on Castell Avenue.
As City Hall prepares to relocate a significant number of its operations to a new site, community stakeholders have begun to discuss the best future use for this publicly owned property.
The need for a hotel adjacent to the civic/convention center is well established and documented (Economic Development Strategic Plan, Downtown Implementation Plan). Various stakeholders have agreed the project is needed, but there are hurdles to developing the property where city hall currently sits.
Master Plan Development
In late 2015, the New Braunfels Industrial Development Corporation (4b board) and City Council approved the hiring of Douglas Architects to lead the city and its stakeholders through an intensive, year long planning process for the site. Douglas Architects is charged with generating a master plan document that will outline a comprehensive, market-based building program built upon community input and support.
During the master planning development, three workshops were held for the public to participate and provide input. The first was on March 29, 2016 at the McKenna Events Center (801 West San Antonio), the second workshop was held on July 26, 2016 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center (375 S Castell Avenue), and the last was held on March 8th at the New Braunfels Public Library (700 E. Common Street).
