Community-Wide Meeting - Envision New Braunfels

The City of New Braunfels and the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee invite the community to the fourth workshop for Envision New Braunfels, the Comprehensive Plan update. This community-wide event is the fourth in a multi-year effort to update

New Braunfels’ guide for long range decision making regarding growth and development. An interactive, open house format, the event is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23rd, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center.  The Center is located at 375 S. Castell Avenue.

Christopher Looney, New Braunfels’ Planning and Community Development Director, noted the open house will include opportunities for continued public engagement.

“Information boards and maps will be set up around the room with plenty of markers and pens for feedback, input and edits. The boards will include all of the draft goals and strategies as edited thus far, illustrations of several different growth scenarios as formulated by the public input, and various map layers that together will ultimately form a draft future land use plan, said Looney.”

Looney further indicated that, “A presentation providing overall information will be scrolling during the event, and opportunities for open, hand-written comments will also be available. Comprehensive Plan team members will be stationed throughout to provide additional information, answer questions, and take down notes and input.”

A community’s Comprehensive Plan provides long-range, community-identified goals and objectives to guide local and regional policy makers on all decisions from transportation, to facilities, to health, to land use.  The current New Braunfels Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 1999 and last updated in 2006. The first workshop focused on visioning and was held on November 29, 2016. Over 250 people attended and participated in the event. The second workshop was held on March 6, 2017 where over 200 attendees drafted goals. Over the summer of 2017, nine subcommittees, or Plan Element Advisory Groups, worked on finalizing the goals and developing draft strategies. These groups are made up of approximately 300 interested citizens, residents, property owners and other stakeholders. The third workshop on October 30, 2017 gave over 90 participants the opportunity to weigh in on the work that was done over the summer.

An online poll has been published so that those who were not able to attend the October 30th workshop can provide additional input into the goals and strategies. The poll can be found at: https://www.envisionnewbraunfels.org/participate-in-our-online-poll/ Laptop computers will be set up at the open house so that participants may access the poll while they are there.
