Still holding on to that formal dress or suit worn for one occasion and never to be worn again? The New Braunfels Public Library and Westside Community Center are serving as drop-off locations for gently used formal wear for the Givin’ Tree,
a clothing closet that provides free formal attire for individuals in New Braunfels and surrounding areas.
“The Givin’ Tree collects clothing for individuals who would like to attend their prom, homecoming or any other special event that requires formal attire but who may not have the financial resources to do so,” said Givin’ Tree owner Serena Morris. “In past years we have provided area high schools, including New Braunfels High School, Canyon High School, Seguin High School and Kyle High School, with gowns, tuxes, accessories, hair stylists, makeup artists and transportation to more than 70 students.”
Morris said this year’s goal is 400 dresses, and they have nearly 300 so far.
“Serena Morris has a gift for giving back to her community,” said Westside Community Center Outreach Coordinator Jennifer Hernandez. “The New Braunfels Public Library and Westside Community Center are accepting new and gently used formal attire through March 1st to assist families with high school students create memories and prepare for special events in their lives.”
