A public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10th, for residents and businesses in the vicinity of four, upcoming pedestrian improvement projects. The meeting will be conducted by City of New Braunfels Capital Programs staff
in the Tejas Room at New Braunfels City Hall at 6:00 p.m. and will provide attendees with information about the impending construction.
In partnership with the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO), pedestrian improvements will be constructed - including sidewalks, ramps, crosswalks, and signage - to promote pedestrian transportation alternatives at the following locations:
• McQueeney Road – from Briarbend to Northpark Ridge; sidewalks on both sides of the road for connectivity to local neighborhoods, Memorial Hike/Bike Trail and Fischer Park.
• Seele Elementary – improves pedestrian facilities for the elementary students and enhances safe travel to local amenities including Landa Park, Landa Street and various businesses along N. Walnut Avenue.
• W. San Antonio Street – from Walnut Avenue towards downtown ending at Academy Avenue; sidewalks and improvements on both sides of the road for better pedestrian travel to and from the downtown area and businesses along San Antonio Street.
• S. Walnut Avenue – from IH-35 Frontage Road south to Gardenia Drive; improvements on both sides of the road to help promote alternate means of travel in a congested commercial business area.
The City will administer and construct these projects with oversight by the Texas Department of Transportation. Work is currently scheduled to begin in summer of 2019 with completion expected in late 2019/early 2020, pending weather and other factors.
