Volunteers are needed for the third annual Dos Rios Watershed Clean Up Event scheduled for Saturday, September 21st, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
“This is a great time to get out in the community and help to protect our local rivers and waterways,” said New Braunfels Watershed Program Manager Mark Enders. “All participants will be provided with clean-up supplies, and those that register by September 6th will receive a special event t-shirt, breakfast and lunch.”
“Simply go to www.nbtexas.org/DosRiosCleanup to sign up and get more information,” Enders said. “Volunteers should dress appropriate for the weather, since they will be outside collecting litter from river banks, roadsides and drainage areas. Long pants, a hat, sunscreen and closed-toe shoes are recommended”.
The event is being coordinated by the City of New Braunfels and the Headwaters at the Comal. It is sponsored in part by the Edwards Aquifer Authority, Guadalupe Blanco River Authority, Cemex, Envoy Mortgage, Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q, Leap Frog Promotions, CoPilot Creative Co., Taco Palenque, New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, HEB, Rockin’ R, Texas Tubes, Comal Tubes, Chuck’s Tubes, Corner Tubes, Gruene River Company, Landa Falls Landa River Trips, Felger’s River Center and NB Toobs.
“We are very excited to be holding the third annual Dos Rios Watershed Clean Up and hope that citizens will come out for a fun morning caring for our environment with like-minded individuals,” said River Operations Manager Amy Niles. “This is a great opportunity for anyone needing community service hours, as well as those who enjoy being around our rivers. It is important that we care for our natural resources, and we encourage the community to come out and work together to help protect and preserve our local waterways at this event.”
Approximately 200 volunteers helped to collect 2,200 lbs. of litter in and around our local rivers and creeks during the 2017 and 2018 Dos Rios Watershed Clean-Up events combined.
Participants can sign up on-line and registration begins at 8:30 AM at the Headwaters at the Comal, 333 E. Klingemann Street, on the morning of the event. The volunteers will then be transported from the Headwaters to and from one of multiple clean-up locations, courtesy of the participating local river outfitters.
