Fire Extinguisher Training

Portable fire extinguishers are required in many locations including businesses, schools, hotels and motels, and just about any public assembly. Proper use of a portable fire extinguisher can put out a small fire or control it until the fire department arrives. Do you know how to use one? While the operation of most portable fire extinguishers is simple, hands-on training is the best way to ensure timely and efficient operation in an emergency.

The New Braunfels Fire Department provides fire extinguisher training to businesses, schools, civic associations, etc. The training includes a classroom presentation followed by hands-on training demonstration with proper techniques from an NBFD instructor.

Smoke DetectorSmoke Detector Program

Because the New Braunfels Fire Department is committed to life safety, we provide and install smoke alarms free of charge to any senior citizen's home (single-family dwellings) within our fire jurisdiction.

There are three main ways that we provide and install free smoke alarms:

  • Individual requests: any senior citizen living within the City of New Braunfels Fire Department’s fire jurisdiction may request this service. Requestors must own their own home, as apartments and duplexes are exempt from this service.
  • Smoke alarms should be replaced after 10 years of service, whether hard-wired, battery-operated, or hard-wired with a battery backup. “Be safe, replace". The City of New Braunfels Fire Department will replace consumer purchased detectors at no charge.
  • Waiver of Liability
