Juvenile Law / Interrogation Update Training #2091
Friday, January 3, 2020
Juvenile law is the body of law that applies specifically to juvenile offenders. While many constitutional rights are the same for both minors and adults, there are some key differences and many cases where the law treats a minor differently than an adult. This class is designed to provide an overview of the juvenile justice system and specific laws related to taking a juvenile into custody, juvenile interrogations, juvenile searches, fingerprinting and photographing juveniles, and more. This training will inform law enforcement officers and investigators of the structural components of the juvenile justice system and the stages of criminal process from the detection of crime and arrest, investigation, and through pre-trial processes. Instructor Lt. Butch Matjeka has been teaching for over 30 years and is a 41-year law enforcement veteran currently serving as the Criminal Investigations Lt. with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. He retired from SAPD after 34 years.
