On today’s date, at approximately 8:45am, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Landa Street for a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident.
First responders arrived to find that a Hyundai passenger car traveling north on Walnut Avenue had struck a pedestrian on a motorized scooter that was attempting to cross Walnut Avenue from Landa Street. The pedestrian, a 64-year old female from New Braunfels, was knocked off of the scooter by the collision. New Braunfels EMS transported the pedestrian by ground to University Hospital in San Antonio with non-life threatening injuries. The 28-year old female driver of the passenger car was uninjured, although the vehicle suffered moderate front-end damage from the crash.
The intersection of Walnut Avenue at Landa Street was closed for approximately 15 minutes following the crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian disregarded the crosswalk signals and was attempting to cross Walnut at the intersection even though the northbound vehicles had a green light. The passenger car braked to avoid the collision, but was unable to stop in time. No charges are expected to be filed as a result of this accident.
