On today’s date (11-09-17), at approximately 4:45pm, the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to the parking lot of Lowe’s in the 1400 block of I-35 South for a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived and found a 44-year old male from New Braunfels who had suffered a single stab wound to the abdomen. The injury was considered serious, but not life threatening, and the victim was transported by ground EMS to the San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, a witness to the stabbing gave New Braunfels Police officers a very good description of the suspect, the suspect’s vehicle, and the suspect’s direction of travel and, within a few minutes, officers were able to locate the suspect still inside a red Ford Mustang in a parking lot in the 1400 block of I-35 North. A felony traffic stop was conducted and the suspect was arrested without incident. The suspect, 39-year old Darren Frederick Nevares of San Marcos, was then taken to the Comal County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Nevares was also found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Bexar County for Bond Forfeiture stemming from a previous Possession of Marijuana arrest.
