On today’s date (02/10/18), at approximately 9:12am, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a blue Nissan Altima in the 600 block of South Business 35. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and led officers on a brief pursuit that ended underneath I-35 at Schmidt Avenue when the Nissan crashed into a black GMC 2500 pickup truck. The driver of the Nissan then attempted to flee on foot but was stopped by officers just a few yards from the scene of the crash. The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor, non life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by New Braunfels EMS. The driver of the Nissan also suffered non life-threatening injuries from the crash and was initially transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels for treatment before being taken into custody without further incident. Point of San Antonio. He was transported from the hospital to the Comal County Jail and booked on a single charge of Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle (a 3rd degree felony) and a single charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (a 2nd degree felony). No other injuries were reported from the incident. The area underneath I-35 was shut down for about an
hour while the NBPD Traffic Unit investigated the scene.
