On today’s date (02-17-18), at approximately 10:00am, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department were called to the intersection of Hidalgo Avenue and Katy Street for reports of a stabbing. Officers arrived in the area and found a 28-year old male victim suffering from multiple serious, life-threatening stab wounds. Paramedics with the New Braunfels Fire Department rushed the victim by ground EMS to the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) in critical condition.
Other officers arriving at the scene of the stabbing also encountered the suspect who was taken into custody without incident. The investigation determined that the suspect had initially assaulted his girlfriend (a 25-year old female from New Braunfels who was treated at the scene by paramedics and was not transported to a hospital). The female’s brother then went to her defense and confronted the suspect, leading to the second altercation at the intersection of Hidalgo and Katy that ended with the brother being stabbed.
The suspect has been identified as 25-year old Jonathan Anthony Gomez of New Braunfels. He was transported to the Comal County Jail and booked on a 1st Degree Felony charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and a Class A Misdemeanor charge of Assault Causing Bodily Injury – Family Violence.
