On today’s date (10-04-18), at approximately 8pm, the New Braunfels Police Department responded to the 1000 block of South Walnut Avenue for a welfare concern about a male, possibly with a weapon. Officers arrived and attempted a traffic stop on a Honda SUV, but the driver fled from officers.
The ensuing pursuit wound its way through portions of Comal and Guadalupe County, down I-35 into Schertz, and then back into New Braunfels, with speeds varying between 40mph and 100+mph. The pursuit involved officers from the New Braunfels Police Department and Texas DPS.
The pursuit ended when the fleeing driver crashed his vehicle in the 1800 block of South Walnut Avenue, near Northpark Ridge. A felony traffic stop was conducted and the driver of the vehicle, a 48-year old male from New Braunfels, was taken into custody without further incident.
He was taken to the Comal County Jail and charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle (Felony), DWI (Class B Misdemeanor), and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Penalty Group 1 (Felony). No injuries were reported during this incident. More charges may be filed against the driver as the investigation continues. The driver’s identity will be released once he has been magistrated and bond has been set.
