The New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department, along with Maintenance Management Contracting Services, is performing this year's semi-annual cemetery cleanup this week.
Cleanup is taking place in both the New Braunfels and Comal Cemeteries and includes the removal of materials not in compliance with the City's ordinance, as well as tree and hedge trimming. Per City Ordinance, section 26-6, temporary markers or ornaments are not allowed. The ordinance also states that all natural or artificial flowers must be placed securely in the flower vases, and that the planting of any trees, shrubs, flowers, etc., of any type are not permitted. Residents are asked to collect all personal ornaments and tributes they wish to keep.
"This semi-annual cleanup process helps to restore and preserve our historic cemeteries," said Stacey Dicke, Parks and Recreation Director.
Cleanup will conclude on Friday, November 20th, weather and other factors permitting.
