The City of New Braunfels is once again offering free Christmas tree drop-off and mulch pick-up for New Braunfels residents at its City Recycle Center, located at 488 South Castell Avenue (with the entrance on Butcher Street).
From Saturday, December 26th through Saturday, January 9th, residents can drop off their natural Christmas trees so they can be made into mulch. Trees will be accepted at the Recycle Center during normal operating hours, which are from 8am to 12pm and 12:30pm to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Artificial trees, flocked trees (with fake snow), and any decorations like lights, ornaments, garland, tinsel, and stands will not be accepted. Please remove all decorations prior to bringing a tree to the Recycle Center.
The trees that are dropped off will then be turned into mulch, which will be available for pick-up (while supplies last) during normal operating hours from Saturday, Jan. 2nd through Saturday, Jan. 9th. Christmas tree mulch is for New Braunfels residents only and is a self-load service, so residents will need to bring their own shovels and containers.
Natural Christmas trees are also eligible for residential pick-up at the curb on Green Waste collection days throughout the year. Trees taller than 8-feet must be cut in half, and all trees must be free of decorations and flocking.
The City Recycle Center accepts single-stream recycling, completely white plastic foam #6, flattened cardboard, and scrap metal year-round. For details on bringing items to the City Recycle Center, please visit the Recycle Center website or call the Solid Waste and Recycling Division at (830) 221-4040.
