The City of New Braunfels has announced an overall increase of approximately $260,500 or 9.6% in sales taxes received in January (for the month of November) compared to the same month last year.
When the various adjustments to the monthly payment are removed, net November sales tax collections increased by approximately 7.9%.
“With the release of the November figures, sales tax activity continues on a great start for FY 2021,” said Jared Werner, Chief Financial Officer. “November activity is when we can anticipate seeing the impact of holiday shopping in New Braunfels. For the month of November, the retail industry was collectively up by over 15% locally. However, there is a great deal of variance when analyzing the sub-industries within the overall retail sector. For example, while non-store retailers (mainly online sales) were up over 50% for the month of November, department stores were actually down slightly. We look forward to evaluating the December figures as it represents one of the largest monthly collections of the year.”
