In an effort to improve the traffic flow in the FM 306/Creekside area, a new turn lane is under construction in New Braunfels. Motorists might not be familiar with this type of design, called displaced left-turn lane.
Here's how it works: When going westbound (think leaving Buc-ee's/Creekside/FM 1101) on FM 306, traffic will have designated left-turn lanes taking a driver under IH 35. These designated left-turn lanes will tie into the south-bound access road via the turnaround. Traffic that is not turning left will continue at the intersection as usual. Traffic headed eastbound (think heading from Common St/Gruene/Canyon Lake) will continue to have the same traffic patterns on FM 306 at IH 35 as usual.
This traffic pattern is very similar to the interchanges in nearby San Marcos at IH 35/SH 80, and in San Antonio at SH 16/Loop 1604. Click here for a view of what this may look like from your driver's seat.
TxDOT shows this final lane configuration should be complete at the end of Summer 2021, weather and other factors permitting.
