The unprecedented winter weather this week forced postponements for residential and commercial trash and recycling collection due to treacherous road conditions.
Continued winter weather, including freezing rain and snow into Thursday, has also forced the closure of the Waste Management Mesquite Creek Landfill until at least noon on Friday. Out of concern for the safety of employees and customers, the city’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division will postpone all collections for the remainder of this week and will resume its normal collection schedule on Monday, February 22nd.
Due to the delayed collection, each resident will be allowed up to 2 extra bags of trash without having to purchase excess garbage stickers. Residents are asked to please place those extra bags at the curb with their rolling trash bins ahead of their normal collection date.
Also, as a result of the winter weather, the contractor for the city’s Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event has requested a postponement, so the event that was scheduled for Saturday, February 20th has been rescheduled for March 13th from 8am until 12pm.
