The officer involved shooting incident that occurred on Sept. 15, 2021, at approximately 12:45pm, in the 200 block of Business 35 South remains an ongoing investigation by the Texas Rangers, who are routinely called in to independently investigate shooting incidents involving a peace officer.
The suspect, 28-year old Aaron Arnaldo Gomez of New Braunfels, is the suspect in an ongoing Aggravated Kidnapping investigation that occurred earlier the same day (09-15-21) in which a firearm was discharged and a 22-year old female was held against her will. Additionally, Gomez already had an active 3rd degree felony warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon as well as a Parole Violation Warrant stemming from a 2015 Aggravated Robbery charge out of New Braunfels. Following Wednesday’s incident, Gomez was taken to a nearby Level 1 Trauma Center where he remains in critical but stable condition. Additional charges against Gomez, from various ongoing investigations including Wednesday’s incident, are still pending.
Meanwhile, the New Braunfels Police Department has placed two officers on administrative leave per standard protocols following yesterday’s incident. Those officers, a 41-year old Sergeant with 11 years with NBPD and a 32-year old Detective with seven years with NBPD, will remain on paid leave pending the outcome of an internal administrative investigation by the New Braunfels Police Department as well as the criminal investigation ongoing by the Texas Rangers.
All other information regarding the incident is part of the ongoing investigation by the Texas Rangers. The New Braunfels Police Department is thankful that there was no loss of life in this incident and that no civilians or officers were injured.
