The New Braunfels Police Department has identified and detained a suspect in connection with the September 8th lockdown of New Braunfels High School. The lockdown was prompted by a tip that that there was a person on campus with a firearm. The nature of that tip led to a full-scale response from the New Braunfels Police and Fire Department, as well as other surrounding agencies, with over 100 officers from various agencies on scene and numerous resources expended. After a thorough search of the New Braunfels High School campus, it was determined that the tip was not credible and that the information that had been given was false.

Detectives with the NBPD Criminal Investigations Division then began the process of investigating the source of the initial threat. Investigators were able to develop a suspect, a 15-year old male student at New Braunfels High School, and determined that the student had fabricated the information. On today’s date (09-28-22), officers with the New Braunfels Police Department detained that juvenile and charged him with False Alarm or Report, a state jail felony punishable by 180 days to up to 2 years in a state jail facility and a fine of up to $10,000. The 15-year old male, who will remain unidentified because he is a juvenile, was detained without incident and was transported to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center where he is currently being held.

The New Braunfels Police Department would like to thank the numerous other agencies that assisted in the response to New Braunfels High School on September 8th, as well as the entire New Braunfels community for their patience and understanding as officers worked to carefully and thoroughly ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff at the high school.
