New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Brockman joins other mayors from across the country in the 12th Annual National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation and asks residents to join the community challenge. The friendly, community-based challenge asks residents to commit to reducing pollution and managing water resources more wisely by taking the water pledge at www.mywaterpledge.com. The challenge will run through the month of April.
Cities with the highest percentage of residents who make pledges from April 1 through April 30 are entered to win thousands of dollars in prizes, including a grand prize of $3,000 toward their home utility bills, Toro home irrigation products, home improvement store gift cards, and more. Last year, the challenge awarded more than $50,000 in prizes to nearly 300 residents in cities across the United States.
New Braunfels-area students can also make water conservation commitments that help with our city’s standing – and win prizes for their school. One school from each winning city will receive 100 pairs of Zenni Remakes™ that help reduce eye damage from prolonged exposure to blue light. Each pair is made from recycled plastics equal to three discarded single-use plastic water bottles. Teachers are encouraged to take the challenge as a group activity with their students at www.mywaterpledge.com.
“New Braunfels is known nationwide as an oasis, blessed with the pristine waters of the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers. We are all stewards of these precious resources that we enjoy daily,” said New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Brockman. “I challenge all New Braunfels and Comal County citizens to participate. By following conservation measures and taking the pledge to protect the quality of our water, we all are laying a firm foundation for a sustainable future here in our community.”
The Mayor’s Water Challenge is a conservation effort started by the Wyland Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes, protects, and preserves the world’s oceans, waterways, and marine life.

We are privileged to live here in New Braunfels and enjoy the Comal and Guadalupe rivers. This Water Conservation Challenge serves as a great reminder that we each have opportunities to be good stewards of these precious natural resources,” said Chief Strategic Communications and Security Officer Melissa Krause.
Since 2013, the Mayor’s Water Challenge has helped to save over seven million gallons of water in the United States. Last year, 2,298 cities pledged to reduce their annual freshwater consumption by over one billion gallons and reduce waste sent to landfills by 35 million pounds, preventing hundreds of thousands of pounds of hazardous waste from entering our watersheds.
