What are your policies on fees for lost or damaged items?

Late Charges: The New Braunfels Public Library has been fine-free since February 2020. Patron accounts will be blocked from further checkouts when one or more items on the account reaches 14 days past the final due date. If items remain out past 14 days, the item will be considered "lost" and the patron will be billed a replacement fee for the item. If the patron returns the item, the block and the charge on the account will be lifted.

Lost or Damaged Items:

  • The cost of the item will be charged for items lost or returned damaged beyond repair.
  • The replacement cost for lost or damaged AV material cases is $3. The replacement cost for damaged or missing inserts is $3.

Borrowing Privileges: If items remain checked out on a card 14 days past the final due date, the cardholder will not be allowed to check out more items. Overdue reminders are sent automatically by phone, text, or email when materials are one week late.

Reserves: Every patron may place 15 items on reserve.

Returning Materials: You can return your library materials by dropping them in the outdoor bookdrop next to the large blue doors on the East Street side of the building or in the indoor bookdrop inside the front doors of the library by the Service Desk.
